The tsunami that was disco wound up influencing a number of other musical genres, and the strange bedfellows its popularity sometimes made out of people formerly attuned to just one kind of music or another wound up producing all sorts of lovely mixtures in sound; case in point: the Norman Connors produced Aquarian Dream. This is essentially just a bunch of smoove & funky jazz licks wrapped inside a symphonic disco burrito, neither influence bowing to the other, a contrast which really cooks up some fierce energy: succinct brass, a regiment of violins, bouncing bass, sharp vocals, cowbell, and that relentless shuffle-beat (with help from a shakere) which drives the whole damn bus. In the words of Prince, “…grab your foot spray, ‘cause it’s gonna get funky…”!!!
