Although his voice was instantly recognizable, almost nothing else from his days as the leader of seminal rockers the Animals was retained through Eric Burdon’s psychedelic transformation in the late ‘60s; this rite of passage was colorfully illustrated by his ever-changing appearance through that time, a linear and lysergic reality which saw him move from suits, to velvet robes, to African dashikis in record speed. Famously sampled by De La Soul in their classic, “Potholes in My Lawn”, this track finds Eric in a brief tenure fronting the excellent multi-racial outfit War, a perfect fit to back his blue-eyed soul. Like a mantra for our outings to the Sundance Café, “…we’re going high high high, high on magic mountain…”
