from the LP Digital Stimulation, 415 Records, 1980
Well, it looks like we are going more to war in Afghanistan --- big fucking surprise; people have such limited memories these days, but Obama did mention his intentions to ramp up the war over there during his campaign, so observant individuals shouldn’t be that flabbergasted by the news. The fact that many of us presumed this would happen doesn’t impact or lessen my feeling that it’s a bad idea, and I can’t help but stand firm in my conviction that white Christian soldiers from America are indeed not the solution to Islamic extremism, but I digress… The Units were like a gnarlier version of Devo, driven by synths but also the raw energy of punk rock, based out of the Bay area; some music critics consider this LP to be one of the first new wave albums around. The vibe and lyrics aptly mirror the intensity of urban life, and although our lives are surely wracked with stress, having music like this to jam out to when you’re stuck in traffic makes the whole ordeal a little easier.
