from the LP Mr. Hood, Elektra Records, 1991
I was a fan of the infamous MF Doom for a couple years before I made the connection between him & his former alias, Zev Love X, as one third of the golden-era crew KMD (along with his late brother Subroc & pal Onyx); to be honest, there is nary a similarity to be found between the two periods of Daniel Dumile’s musical activity, save for good beats. I know it has become trendy to bash Doom, after those admittedly questionable “imposter” shows, but the guy has always had a knack for delivering in the studio, and for some of us (particularly those of us too lazy and/or old to even be bothered to go out to hip-hop shows anymore) that’s enough. Decent rhymes, tight loop, and mad props for the sampling of Bert, Ernie’s square lover from Sesame Street.
