from the 7” single, CBM Records, 1984
This sexy little number crawled out from the deep south, Fayetteville, North Carolina to be exact. It was fairly difficult to piece together much about who exactly the Chocolate Buttermilk Band were, given that the listed producer on this single has no other credits to his name, and the label it was released on only had this & one other release, by this same group. It’s unclear if this is the same crew that toured behind Toby King in the ‘70s under the same moniker, but it’s conceivable to me since a lot of funk bands morphed into this kind of sound in the ‘80s. One thing is indisputable about them, whoever they were, that being an exceptionally good choice in name. This smokin’ dance track trades for well over $100 in collectors’ circles, but now you too can sop them up with a biscuit!
