Throughout the 1970s, the search was on for record companies to find the “next” Lynyrd Skynyrd or Allman Brothers Band, with Southern rock having developed into a real scene in and of itself, merging the elements of country, blues, & rock into a chugging torrent of boogie that was as American as handguns or Tickle-Me-Elmo; largely, it was a musical chowder born of childhoods spent growing up in the dilapidating south while the culture was changing at light speed around them…well, that and excessive amounts of pot smoking. Hydra came together in Atlanta, and though they never gained the recognition of their influences, their highly proficient level of jamming allowed them to share stages across the country with many well-known hard rock acts of that decade. Gotta love those dual lead guitars, and that bizarre cover art!
