Beyond being an appropriate summation of my own digs on most mornings, this song manages to encapsulate the feeling of a slow-going wake & bake session masterfully, sounding like a soundtrack to “the morning after”; particularly, the crappy production quality actually sounds truthful, as if the entire band regained consciousness all at once, sitting up on the living floor which they had all passed out on the night before, proceeding to get high, flip on a 4-track recorder, and jam right there. After Shave (what a crap name, I know) were a Swiss band that opened for bigger acts around Europe in the early ‘70s, and their debut album here mostly vacillates between this style of hazy-folksy tune and harder rockers; nothing to write home about I suppose, but having just consumed some mushrooms last night, the ate-up vibe here sounds about right!
