Angel Eyes

from the LP Lime III, Polydor Records, 1983

Willing to dip their toes in any of the electronic genres in music inherent to the 1980s, Lime was Canada’s sexy answer to bands like New Order (only not as dark) and Erasure (only not as cheesy), but their roots were in disco rather than new wave. Frankly, this particular track of theirs is so catchy that it could easily have been a smash hit with the proper distribution & hype, but instead Lime was essentially just an underground dance-club sensation at best; the tracks on their albums are hit-or-miss, but you can’t deny how enigmatic of their decade the cover-art was! Demonstrative of just how shallow things were in the ‘80s, Lime’s manager decided the Montreal couple (Denis & Denyse Lepage) were too ugly to tour behind the music they created, so another couple was hired to fill in for the live shows and even the group’s publicity photos!!
