Music Sounds Better With You

from the 12” single, Roulé Records, 1998

This track has a propensity to give the “ecstasy-memory-tingles” to those of us that were indulging in MDMA back when this was released, as it served as the soundtrack to much of 1998 if you were at raves or nightclubs; seriously, I can remember hearing this track played 8 times in one night at party that spring, and the crowd cheered every time!! This was the only single from Stardust, more a trio of good buddies than a music group, who also happened to be cutting edge French-house music producers: Thomas Bangalter (from the legendary Daft Punk), Alain Braxe & Benjamin Diamond. They crafted this, one of my all-time favorite house anthems, around a loop from Chaka Khan’s obscure but delicious album cut “Fate”---the breathy vocals are handled by Diamond and I can only imagine he was rolling his face off when he recorded it, sounding like a love poem to MDMA and those heavy sighs which follow his chorus sound awfully familiar…
