from the 7” single, Dindisc Records, 1980



This song is euphoric---literally, the truest form of immediate gratification. It begins with a simplistic synthline, reminiscent of a heartbeat monitor or Morse code, propelling the listener through the entire track in flawless, metronomic fashion. OMD (as cool of a name as they have, I’m not typing it out again) hailed from Liverpool, and they created a couple of the most memorable and melodic pop tunes from the ‘80s in my estimation. Their genre of music wasn’t exactly known for depth in lyrics, but OMD always managed to be poetic without alienating their fans, “…it worries me, this kind of thing, how you hope to live alone, and, occupy your waking hours…it hardly touched me when it should have then, but memories are uncertain friends, when recalled by messages…”
