from the LP Fucked Up Friends, Anticon Records, 2008Tom Fec, a.k.a. Tobacco, is the leader and primary songwriter for the band Black Moth Super Rainbow (‘BMSR’); as I’ve already mentioned, those guys are personal favorites of mine and it didn’t surprise me in the least when I saw Fec put out his own solo album last year. BMSR had just finished touring alongside indie hip-hopper Aesop Rock before this dropped, and clearly others in the underground rap game dig their vibes, as this LP was released on the Anticon label. These songs ride along in the same vein as Tobacco’s work with BMSR, and as they are the only one’s out there championing this particular sound, why not?! Extra points for the outrageous album title and severely photoshopped artwork---really takes you there.
