from the LP One For All, Elektra Records, 1990Perhaps the only crew to genuinely & consistently give Tribe a run for their money back in the day, the trio known as Brand Nubian (comprising of Grand Puba, Sadat X, & Lord Jamar) hasn’t managed to retain the popularity of their peers, which is a shame because these dudes dropped some of the realist shit around: “…don’t worry about a thing ‘cause the Puba’s never bluffin’, I gets headaches from the whack, so then I take a Bufferin…”; copping to smoking crack wasn’t exactly kosher for neo-Muslins (ala The Nation of Gods & Earths), then or ever, so you gotta give these cats mad props for coming out of the gate with this shit and keeping it on the really real. Oh if hip-hop could only get back to this zone…those funktastic James Brown breaks never fail to get your head a-bobbin!
