If I had to choose one living artist that most accurately & devotedly embodies the spirit of roots reggae, it would have to be Mr. Winston Rodney, a.k.a. Burning Spear; one of the only reggae artists to make it through the ‘80s without caving into the pressure of dancehall trends, Spear’s music has been consistent from the beginning---consistently incredible, and consistently roots. I have had the great fortune of seeing him in concert a couple times and they are among the best sets of any genre I’ve ever witnessed, as uplifting and energizing as it gets. This song always puts a smile on my face when I’m driving through the immense mountains here, “…and if we should live up in the hills…”
