from the EP Le Mobilier, Crépuscule Records, 1998Before there was Ratatat, there was rinôçérôse, a French duo that decided they wanted to add guitars to house music; frankly, in a year that saw many of their French compatriots topping the dance charts with their sleek style of tracky beats, they couldn’t go wrong. There is nothing terribly revolutionary going on in the background here, standard 4-to-the-floor beats, fancy flute & light percussive touches, but you can’t deny that Jean-Philippe Freu’s processed guitar sounds superdank! Although they were quick to fade into electronic obscurity, this track captures a moment in time (which lasted well into 2000) when Parisian producers set the gold standard for house music anthems, and everyone got to enjoy experiments like this one.
