Side A, 1998
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that house music dosen’t live in NYC!! Brooklyn-raised DJ, James Christian, tore it up throughout the ‘90s after having been greatly influenced by New York producer-extraordinare, Jellybean Benitez; this tape was my favorite of JC’s. It’s true, he wound up getting a big head and a bigger drug habit in the late ‘90s, pissing off a lot of fans & promoters by canceling gigs (often the night of), but when Mr. Christian was on point behind the decks it was impossible to deny his ability to read a crowd and deliver the goods! This tape finds him at the zenith of his career, spinning a set of chunky disco-house that bangs so damn hard it imposes its funky will upon me and compels me to boogie across the floor, “…sunshine people, sunshine people we are…”
